February 2023 pollack fishing, Small lures in the deep.
We are all used to using large lures with heavy weights for our winter fishing for pollack vertically. We will see that it is possible to do it "with finesse" in order to trigger more bites and flush out a record fish!
Indeed, this highly aggressive fish reacts particularly well to the Teaser rig. In this article, we will explain to you from A-Z how to make a coherent teaser rig that does not get tangled and will allow you to catch the biggest pollack without any problems!
You can use this rig with both a spinning rod and a casting rod. As usual when fishing from a boat, the braid/fluorocarbon leader duo will be required or we will add our teaser rig. For the braid, we advise you to use an 8-strand multi-color braid, the advantage of which is to have a braid color change every 10m in order to know where you are going to move your lure. Then we advise you to add 4 to 5 meters of fluorocarbon leader between 40 and 45 hundredths; nothing new so far...
At the end of this leader, in order to avoid any tangling and also to be able to quickly return to your usual assembly, we advise you to use a VMC 3548 rolling swivel size 32 or 30.
After your rolling, add about 1m50 of fluorocarbon in 50, 52 hundredths (about 35Lb) in order to be able to easily withstand the fight with 2 fish because yes it happens to catch a fish on the main lure as well as on the teaser! At the end of these 1m50 add your main lure such as for example the Bumble Slug 220 ( orange Flash or pink Flash color particularly appreciated by pollack) with the tp Bumble Head 70g or 90g . Now just add an appendage of about 20 centimeters about 80cm above your main lure and add to the end of it a Rolling swivel + a clip + a VMC 9170 hook in order to be able to easily change the teaser color. Use a surgeon's knot to attach your appendage to the main leader. Our favorite teaser for winter pollack fishing is the Bumble Slug 140 ( lavender, wakasagi or gold brown colors ) which with this rig perfectly imitates the flight of a small prey such as sandeel.
This rig promotes the effect of food competition in pollack because your largest main lure mimics the hunting of the small prey, your Teaser. With this rig, you will find that very often the largest pollack are caught on the teaser!! Don't hesitate to use this rig, your results will be better!
Exclusively on our site for the pollack season, we offer you a pollack Teaser pack which includes a bag of Bumble slug 220 (color of your choice), a bag of 2 TP bumble head (70 or 90g), and the VMC hook for the teaser (This pack is available in limited quantities).
