Sea Bass Fishing - Don't neglect summer fishing in Linear!
During this summer period, fish are becoming more and more active in the water and even up to the surface! But some days, the fish do not break the surface of the water and fishing with surface lures proves ineffective.
In this article, we offer you an alternative by fishing linearly with soft lures.
In fact, this technique is generally used a lot in shallow depths of less than 5 m but we will see that we can use it in greater depths and even up to 20 m!
We will divide our article into two sections, one for fishing in lines less than 10m and the other for deeper fishing in lines up to 20m.
1/Linear fishing in depths less than 10m:

Being almost at slack water with a very weak current of 0.6kts, we decide to do some linear fishing all around the boat with an Optimus Shad 90 Wakasagi ev0 color with a 10g Round Head jig head. This combo proves effective in sand-laden waters.
For the animation, nothing could be simpler: I cast, I close the pick-up, I make contact with the bottom and I bring it back in a linear fashion while reeling. All that remains is to find the right recovery speed depending on your reel and the mood of the fish. A bite and a good fight are guaranteed!

2/Linear fishing in depths between 10m and 20m:
As before, the technique remains essentially the same. We are still looking for fish active in the water layer but this time in depths between 10 and 20m with more current between 0.8kts and 2kts on specific spots such as rock heads or small wrecks.
For this type of fishing we favor full downstream fishing, that is to say that we fish before the boat drifts. Be careful to always keep the line taut during the descent phase of the lure after casting, which requires taking up a little line by making a few turns of the handle because I remind you that the boat drifts towards the lure so the line slackens, which forces us to fish more quickly. This is good because that is the whole advantage of this technique!
For this technique, we have a perfectly adapted lure , the Optimus shad 120 , which moves a lot of water, with a significant vibration and a strong rolling. In terms of colors, depending on the conditions, we use the Optimus Shad 120 in Cloudy White color during the morning and evening hours in low light. For the rest of the day, if the waters are clear, the Optimus Shad 120 in Green Pearl color and if the waters are loaded, the Optimus Shad 120 in Wakasagi Ev0 color.
For the choice of lead head, a TP Bumble Head 20, 30 or 50g depending on the depth and the current but for depths between 13 and 20m the Optimus Shad 120 and TP Bumble Head 30g combo is perfect.
In terms of equipment, we recommend a 15-50g rod of 2.40m with a 3000 or 4000 size reel, a PE 1.0 or PE 1.2 braid and a 30 hundredths fluorocarbon leader.
Technically, this remains essentially the same as the previous paragraph, but you just have to pay attention to casting downstream of the drift, then you make contact with the bottom while controlling the tension of the line, then you make a linear cast to the boat in order to prospect diagonally the entire layer of water. This technique allows you to have great fights on pretty fish.
Please feel free to contact us via chat if you have any questions about technique or your choice of lures.
We wish you a wonderful summer season.
